FlipSide 2014
Friday 3 – Sunday 5 October

Family arts festival with a Brazilian beat

‘Anglo-Brazilian amity ... only the coldest heart could resist’
Ian McEwan

Following its first joyful edition in October 2013, FlipSide returns to Snape this autumn, bringing the cream of Brazilian literature and music together with musicians and writers from the UK and elsewhere in a vibrant weekend of illumination and entertainment for all the family.

FlipSide will kickoff with an opening night dance party featuring world class DJ, Gilles Peterson (Sonzeira DJ Set) alongside Afro Brazilian fuse band, Da Lata. And on Saturday 4th October FlipSide welcomes Brazilian music royalty, Bebel Gilberto, who will perform a rare UK show.

Sessions with Margaret Atwood, Michael Ondaatje, Colm Tóibín, Sally Gardner, Ana Maria Machado, Michel Laub, Benjamin Zephania, Tatiana Salem Levy, Kamila Shamsie and many others will enthral adults and children alike, while the rhythms and melodies of authentic samba, forró, choro and maracatu will invoke ‘carnival'.

Throughout the weekend there will be non-stop capoeira, film shows, art exhibitions, art and printing workshops and much more, all fuelled by caipirinhas, Brazilian beer, coffee and comestibles.
